Headed up to the cottage for the Holiday weekend and of course had to take the detector. You know you have issues when swinging a detector in 80 degree heat sounds better then a cold beer and dipping your feet in the water, but what the heck. I did some old aerials of an area not far from my cottage and saw and old ball field that is still there. Tried to find once before but I did not have the street name. This time I went prepared and had no trouble locating it. I have to say this may of been the strangest hunt to date. As I found 5 really old coins and 70 modern ones with no coins in between. I hit the field first and found nothing. I worked my way off the field to a grassy area and immediately started finding clad (mostly quarters) when I got another quarter signal maybe and inch down. The area was on top of gravel so when I pushed my shovel in the ground I almost flipped when I saw a silver quarter pop out and its an SLQ to boot with a date, 1924, in great shape. I worked around a bit and hit a deep nickel signal that turned out to be a 1902 V nickel. WOW this is going to be great. 52 clad quarters later I only managed to find 2 mercs and an old wheatie. All I can figure is the infield was dug up to make an all ground infield and the dirt was spread out in this area, covering the old money and spreading a few old coins on top of the gravel. I went back on my way home and found 1 more merc and 14 more quarters. In total in 2 hunts I found 66 quarters. I have never seen a place like this before. Glad to get some silver but I was really thinking I had a honey hole here. Wisconsin Digger
