Pounded field gave up a reale nice find

September 18, 2016 – Field has been hunted for about 40 years according to the owner. This field is in the immediate vicinity of where the British army stopped overnight before the battles of Saratoga. It also appears that there was a post-colonial structure in this field. I worked hard in the iron patch to pick out a few keepers including 1733 half reale. The half was found about 100’ from where I parked my truck. I spotted the musket flint as I was kneeling down looking for a target. The copper was found in a different field earlier in the morning.

Congrats on getting those finds, especially from a pounded site. I have only found 1 flint and consider myself lucky to have found it.

Thanks Drew! I can't find marbles either. Got lucky spotting the flint while I was digging another target. The other side isn't too bad either I'll post it.

    Absolutely some great finds.

The fact that you were able to find that little piece of Reale in an iron infested and pounded field is a testament to your perseverance. It could not hide any longer and was waiting for the right person to come along and rescue it from a long long game of hide and seek.

Thanks! It was slow and steady for a couple of hours. I will give the recent plowing an assist on the find!

I can only imagine. It was a really popular detecting spot in the 80's

Nice score. Esp for a field that's been hit right along for 40 years. Flint is a cool find too.
