I have been hunting the 1845 Homestead pretty steady lately. Here are some of the items I have found over the last week which are worth posting. The large cent and wheaty were found just today. I am glad I found them because I was beginning to believe the site had already been picked clean.
The 1820 large cent was only two inch deep resting on a large root of a very old walnut tree. Not sure how to judge the age of walnut trees but this one has a diameter of three and a half to four feet. The 1912 wheaty is the first one I have found. All the other pennies I have found are 1970 to present. I was expecting to have found more wheats by now. No silvers yet either.
The compact had glass pieces inside and I believe they were part of a mirror as they had some silvery backing. Compact diameter is 1.5 inch.
There is a lot of property here and I guess I better keep digging.
