Hook looking thingy.. ideas?

Hi all, found this little hook looking thing during a field hunt. Don't know if it's anything important. Appreciate any insight. Thanks!





Edit: after some looking online, it looks like it could be a CW era knapsack hook, which fits the age of the field.

Kind of looks like a Civil War J-hook but I think those are brass. Maybe they are also iron?
