1918 SLQ and a milestone on War Nickels

Went out for several hours on Saturday morning and had a good hunt. Since 2012 when I got back into the hobby War Nickels were a pretty good target over the years. Saturday I hit 99 and 100. Funny thing as I found them back to back along with a 1940 Jefferson. Not a coin spill but in the same general area. Also, got a pretty nice SLQ (#20 since 2012) that has a pretty nice date "1918". Wish it would of been a "D" as I could of used that for my set. Finished the day off with a "23" Merc, 7 wheats and enough clad to cover gas ($5.83). Now I just need 1 Rosie to hit a milestone on those, but they are turning into a tough find. Got a little warm today but a great morning to be detecting. Keep swinging Wisconsin Digger.-

Congrats on a great hunt. That SLQ is Nice! Also congrats on the milestone. And I agree, finding any silver is getting to be a challenge especially in our region. Have to laugh I guess when Mercs are much easier to find than Rosies.

Parks, schools and old Churches is about all I hunt but I plan on hitting some water this year. I have some neat spots researched but waiting for the water to warm up and I think we are there. I need your training seminar on door knocking. WD

You know Ive never even bothered to see. Ill have to pull them out an see. I know there is 1 S MM that is harder to get when I was a collector back in the day. Ill check today and let you know. Although I can say I ve found over 450 Mercs and have never found even a semi key date coin so I am guessing I dont have them all. WD

Bucknut asked how many sets I had of the War Nickels and I have never bothered to check. The result was "1". I did however have 48 of the 43 P ones. Thx for the idea Bucknut. WD

That 1918 SLQ is a beautiful coin. Nice that the date is still legible. I never get tired of seeing SLQs on the forum, such a wonderful old coin, and you have found 20 of them!

That's cool! I completed my war nik set last year...just lucky I guess to get it with about half the war niks that you have dug. Yeah most of mine are 1943 P's too.

Grats on the finds and the milestone. I can at least say I have found war nickels, but no where close to what you got. I think I have 2 or 3.
Future goals: Capped bust coin, Flowing hair LC, Classic head LC, VT copper, MA copper, Pistareen, Two-cent pc, SLQ, GW inaugural button, Excelsior button, Civil war token, and a gold ring.
