    First flat button!

I was able to get out for a brief hunt this morning in the field I found the crotal and buff. Nothing but can slaw until I got a screaming 12-39@6 inches. Flipped over a big dirt clod and saw a green rim. Thought it was maybe a fatty indian, but when I popped it out I saw an intact shank.
Cleaned it up and the front is plain, but the back reads "Warranted Orange Color" with trident looking symbols as an inner ring. Treble plate maybe?
If any of our button guys have any info, love to hear back. A brief Google search mentions the type being around 1830s or 40s. Thanks!

Now that you got a flat button out of the way, what's next? How about a nice big dandy with fancy.

Thanks much! I am really stoked about that button. Never expected to find anything that old in my area since most settlers didn't arrive for at least 50 years after that button was probably made. So yeah, it really was a big surprise.

These are known as "Flat buttons or coin buttons" as they do resemble a small coin from their thickness and plain fronts , 1830 is a perfect timeframe give or take a decade either way . Usually other nice old goodies are around when you start finding these Chris , congrats on your first !

Got one very similar but never could read anything on the back. Think I'll be having a second look at mine.

Thanks again everyone! Yeah, I was pretty blown away by finding something that old, especially at that particular site. There were clues in the region of old activity such as the undocumented cellar hole and musket balls found about a half mile West, 2 large cents and a fatty Indian. Now I just need to find a capped bust coin or some tombacs! Lol
