Thread: Wood's Hibernia Copper!

    Wood's Hibernia Copper!

Got out with Danny LaMontagne yesterday for some colonial digging! We both had a great day and the finds started coming late in the afternoon. Highlights for me were my first Woods Hibernia Copper (1722 - 1724); my first "Nipple" button and the largest pewter button I have found. The pewter button has a nice design of concentric circles.

Danny LaMontagne -"Let's give it another half hour and then move on!"

Holy Crap! Dan! That's it! I'm so glad I saved it! I thought it was the leg from a small pot or kettle but decided to save it since it might be part of something good. Thanks!!!

We actually thought it would be a little nicer out in the field but I'm still on Cloud Nine! It doesn't look too bad for being in the ground almost 300 years!

"Lets give it another half hour then move on" Danny stays with a site until he is certain it is barren. I move on like an impetuous, impulsive teenager. That's a lot of targets for a cellar these days! I never saw a button like that circle one! A big congratulations on that Hibernia and bucket lister!

Ken, unfortunately, I can't make out the date at all. If I look at it long enough under a loop my mind wants to tell me that I can see a "4." Sometimes the mind plays tricks on you.

I was pretty sure when I peeked at it after you pulled it from the soil I could see the 1723 date (the most common of the three years made )

Thanks Danny! It looked better in the field didn't it? When I was cleaning it with a toothpick that chalky green just came right off and left it brown. I didn't even use the heat lamp on it.
