We Took a One Day Road Trip to Ohio / Great Day!!!!

So early Saturday morning, Noah, Alec and I headed of for a little Ohio door knocking. Our first house was an 1834 house with a pretty large lawn. We were told that it had been hunted a few times before, but go ahead if we want. It's an 1835 house, Of course we Want!!. Lol. My very first good target was an 1887 Indian. About 20 minutes later I get a bouncy high tone and pull out a 1918 merc. My last good target in that yard was an 1876-CC seated dime. Wow, what a way to start the day!!!

The next couple of houses produced a Washington, a Rosie and 2 Indians.

The last house of the day was the 'Day Maker'. Noah got a yes at an 1860s house. The only problem was that the home owner wanted us to come get him before we dug each plug. It wasn't a very large lawn so I took a pass. Noah decided to give it a shot.
His very first hole produced a 3 coin spill. I'll let him tell his story but one of the coins was a very hard to find Bucket lister for most of us. The best part was, after the home owner watched him dig the first hole, he gave as free reign to dig our plugs!!!
Even though I said I was going to sit this one out, Noah came and got me and showed me what he had just dug.
Ok, to make this long story short, I left that yard with a dime trifecta, Rosie, Merc and an 1887 Seated. also, a beat up Large Cent which in the proper light looks like an 1835. Oh yeah, Tim's finds kept coming!!

Congrats on the wonderful day of detecting, Don! It certainly was worth the drive. In 40+ years of detecting I have never found a Carson City coin. That one is still a major bucket lister for me.

The 1835 Large Cent is an interesting find too. How frivolous to use money as a target back in the day. If only it could talk.

And how beautiful is that 1887 Seated Dime?! GORGEOUS!

It certainly makes the drive home a lot more enjoyable when you have a smile on your face from some great finds.

    Lifetime totals:
10 Large Cents, 415 Indian Heads, 2 Two Cent Pieces, 1 Capped Bust Half Dime, 1 Seated Half Dime, 10 Shield Nickels, 68 V Nickels, 124 Buffalo Nickels, 31 War Nickels, 16 Seated Dimes, 131 Barber Dimes, 405 Mercury Dimes, 249 Rosies, 4 Seated Quarters, 18 Barber Quarters, 20 Standing Liberty Quarters, 89 Silver Washingtons, 1 Seated Half, 3 Barber Halves, 16 Walking Liberty Halves

Way to go Don. More seated. Geez, it's almost like we expect to see one every time you hunt now! The LC is definitely in that mid to late 1830s era with the transitional head from the older Matron to the younger Braided Hair style. Congrats sir!

Another great hunt Don. Seems a seated is sort of the norm for your hunts..... The "87" is a beauty.
