    Recent finds from August 2023

    This coin and token were found at the vacant farm house on August 5.

    1920 coin from Iceland. Great patina, too bad about the damage.

    That is a cool coin! The fact that it is pre-independance makes it even cooler.

    Oldest coin: 1699 William III halfpenny
    Purdiest coin: 1832 Capped Bust quarter
    Coolest find: USA button with blue threads still on shank

    Very cool bunch of finds! It's too bad about the Iceland coin, looks like it lost a battle with the lawn mower. I'm really intrigued about that old Pontiac key. Guessing late 40s to early 50s? They used the Pontiac Chief logo on a lot of their old keys, but this is a variation I could only find on one other example and it was undated.

    Is it Pontiac? I was thinking it was to a Mercury.

    It must have been brutely hot on some of those hunts, Tony! Lots of goodies and assorted coins. Is the lipstick tube made of silver? If so, I have never seen one before!

    Yes, it is silver. I have never seen one before either. At first I thought it might be a match case. I was shocked when I discovered that it has lipstick in it.

    Thank you Tony, I stand corrected! That is indeed a Mercury key, this style being used 1961-65. The one I saw during an image search came up as Pontiac, so was also mislabeled and explains why I couldn't easily find any others. I was also off base because it isn't the typical double sided Ford/Lincoln/Mercury key they used after this style.
