Button? Bale seal? I have no clue.

    Hi Everyone,

We just got a snowfall in SE WI yesterday that was blizzard like. Kind of a wake up call to get out and hunt while I can.

Need help with the below picture. This rang up like lead and also feels heavy like lead. About the size of a dime. Found it at a boy scout camp, but I think one of the buildings that is there dates back to the 1800s due to the many square nails found in the area. We also found 1800s IHPs and Shield nickels at the same spot.

If it was a button, the shank is completely gone which and it doesn't look like there ever was a shank. Thanks for the help IDing it.

Looks like a lead bag seal to me. The top picture looks like "US" in the center. The bottom picture is almost legible. Maybe a clearer picture we can read the word(s)?

I'm certain that has to be a bag seal of some sort. My guess is maybe postal service or military provisions. A clearer photo of the wording should help narrow that down.

    new pictures

The best photos I could take. non-US side the lettering looks like a "small" S, NIMEAIS. OKS in small lettering just under the NI. Whatever this is, I never found one before. Thanks for looking!
