CW Union eagle sword belt plate

By friends and I have pounded this spot and 2 of us ended the day back at this site as we were trying to find goodies in the woods surrounding this site. My CTX is at Minelab (hopefully getting fixed), so had the AT Pro out.

Let me know if I identified this correctly. Likely going to get it authenticated at the local Civil War Museum in SE WI. I was absolutely stunned when this came out of the ground (4" down).

My artist friend is cleaning it for me. I have zero patience for this and he loves cleaning. Name: 20231112_094650.jpg

What an incredible find, especially in our area! Very nice cleaning and restoration job too. Lucy it seems not to have suffered to much corrosion, that soil was really good to it!

Thanks all!!! DOD - found it in an area that likely wasn't farmed much. Old home site and it was in what I believe was the "yard".

Sounded like an aluminum can to be honest. I dig those up just to clean the ground anyway. Finally paid off after 1000 cans. Just glad I didn't hit it.

Thanks Drew and Del! Will have to look closer and see if there is some gold gilt hiding in there.
