    First hunt of 2024

The air heated up enough and the ground thawed just enough for me to hit the fields for the first time in 2024 about 10 days ago. After striking out at the the first site, the second site was a nice surprise, and lucky enough the nearby electric fence was turned off for the winter. You guys know how tough those are to detect around, regardless of how top-end your machines are. Anyways, here are my finds, starting off the year strong with a 5 copper day. Best find was the coin silver spoon w/monogram "H F". No hallmarks on this one, and given the other relics dug at this site, early to mid 1800s would be a logical date for this piece. Stoked on that one. Also got a crusty NY Excelsior militia button. Coppers are 1818, 1830 (Var. N5), 1839 (Booby Head Var. N11), KG2 Hibernia HP and a Slick Rick. Thanks for looking.

As someone who has only found 9 Large Cents in their lifetime, 5 coppers in one day is mind blowing! You had a heck of a first hunt for 2024!

Personal items like that silver spoon really get my imagination working too. If only it could talk.

I love the conestoga bell as well!

    Lifetime totals:
10 Large Cents, 415 Indian Heads, 2 Two Cent Pieces, 1 Capped Bust Half Dime, 1 Seated Half Dime, 10 Shield Nickels, 68 V Nickels, 124 Buffalo Nickels, 31 War Nickels, 16 Seated Dimes, 131 Barber Dimes, 405 Mercury Dimes, 249 Rosies, 4 Seated Quarters, 18 Barber Quarters, 20 Standing Liberty Quarters, 89 Silver Washingtons, 1 Seated Half, 3 Barber Halves, 16 Walking Liberty Halves

You're made of tougher stuff than I; No winter detecting for me up here (but spring is coming!).

Haha - thanks Jeff. Yeah, those bells do have an affinity for my coil at times. Not sure why.

Yep, I got the CTX charged and made it out on a nice day near 70 degrees for maybe 45 minutes before the call to come home came.
Today we are under another winter weather advisory getting upwards of 8 inches of snow by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday). Then we are expecting another storm probably Monday to dump more of that white garbage.
With my luck, maybe see a few nice days of spring and then it'll turn into a sauna infested with black clouds of mosquitos the size of vampire bats.
