What a pleasant happening, warm weather on the last day of the year, and I decided to take advantage of it hoping to get one last good hunt in and hopefully end the year up with a bang. I went out in the morning to the old school where earlier this year I found a gold ring and a lot of wheats. After finding some clad I got a 11-43 signal that jumped around a bit to 09-44 and back again to 11-43, tone was good so I had some hope of getting a keeper, imagine my surprise at finding at about 5 to 6 inches a Mercury dime. I could see the top and knew it was a Merc and after retrieving it my heart started pumping because I could see the date 1916! The back was covered with dirt so I could not see if that illusive D was there but I put some water on it and still could not tell so I waited until I got home….well we all know the result but it was fun to keep hunting with anticipation of maybe a rare find in store. I was thinking I had not found a nickel for the last few hunts when I got a 12-12 solid at 5†I thought wouldn’t it be nice if it would turn out to be the first Buffalo nickel for me and I was excited to find that exact coin in the hole a nice 1936 Buff. I then got a wheat and a basketball pendant charm and decided to go home. After lunch Diane decided to join me at another old school site where she found clad and I added two more wheats to wrap up a wonderful New Years Eve hunt.
