Silver in the snow... my first Walker half!

There's a farm near my house where I've been arrowhead hunting successfully for years. It dawned on me yesterday that I should MD where I had seen an old shed. Turns out upon closer inspection it is very old with stone foundation. There's no visible sign of where the house was, but after finding brick and burnt wood where I was digging lots of copper pipe, I figured out where the house had been- and found my first Walker Half (1939) about 3 deep in the 'front yard' !

    <: <: <:

Possibly the biggest adrenalin rush and happy dance I've had yet in this hobby!! I've found 2 Franklins and 2 Kennedy halves so far and really enjoy the big silver, but have been longing for a Walker... such a beautiful, intricate coin...

My friends' Missy & Bill were hunting with me, took pics of the land but I was too eager to share my big find before they forwarded the pics to me... They just took off MDing for a few days on an island of a nearby lake, rich with history. I wish them luck thumbsup01 Btw, they're supposed to be introducing themselves on here, so far they're just lurkers Hopefully they'll have good story and pics for us when they get back.

Had another good hunt a few days ago, went out in 20 degree weather with my buddy Dave and found this big chunk o' silver ring! All of my silver rings have been pretty small, so this big ring was exciting! Figured I'd go ahead and share my total jewelry finds for 2010 while I'm at it. The gold class ring (1936) I found last month- I gave to the deceased owner's daughter. I still plan to write-up a story for White's on that one. Thanks for looking!

Congratulations on the Walker! Probably one of our most beautiful coins ever minted. Your collection of jewelry is impressive. They are all such nice looking pieces. You must MD in wealthy neighborhoods because my silver jewelry always looks so gawdy and cheap! rofl

Awesome score on that beautiful walker tanacat thumbsup01 I just love finding them big silvers, hopefully I'll find a walker this year, I didn't find one last year which was the first year I hadn't in quite a while. I find mostly barber halves it seems. Never have found a 64 Kennedy either.

The only one I have found was much more worn than yours.

Great double silver score TC !!!

I bet that WLH was a rush... extra bonus on the detective work finding the front yard. You were rewarded generously.

They are a beautiful coin... probably my favorite reverse of all of them.

The big silver ring is awesome too.

Maybe this is small preview of how your 2011 season will turn out.

Great pictures for the story. Congrats on a very successful couple of hunts.

Missy & Bill... come on in and join the forum, I would love to hear about your island hunt. thumbsup01

Congrats Tanacat, that walker is awsome ,you have quite the collection of jewelry pieces also...returning a ring is a fantastic experiance,I got to return a gold penant and three gold birthstone rings on it,to a 12 year old girl, that had belonged to her dead grandmother,I got a hug and some cookies as my reward...but the karma has given me several other gold items to make for the piece i returned...send that story in to whites, they will get you a gift card, spring is just around the corner, best of luck in 2011,Dave

So sweet, gotta love that big silver. Looks like it is in beautiful condition. I am still waiting on my first one of those. Hit on both sides with a Barber half and a Franklin, but not Walker. Can't wait to get that same rush.
