    United Spanish War Veterans pin

I had a couple of hours to kill today so I went to a place we didn't have much luck at last year . This place is old and it should have some decent finds but they are being difficult The last visit only produced a couple of wheaties. Todays hunt produced a wheat along with a neat old pin.
I haven't had a chance to look into it's history yet

    Thanks for lookin & HH

Nice hit on the medal, and that Wheaty looks pretty new when dropped too. There may even be a couple of worn Seated lurking there. thumbsup01

    Re: United Spanish War pin

I did a quick Google search. It lead me to a Wikipedia link Here.

Soon after the Spanish-American War ended, in early 1899, discharged veterans rushed to form fraternal societies. Among these were the Spanish War Veterans, the Spanish-American War Veterans, the Servicemen of the Spanish War, American Veterans of Foreign Service, the Army of the Philippines, the Veteran Army of the Philippines, the Legion of Spanish War Veterans and many other smaller organizations.
It's basically a post war soldiers fraternity. Who knew? lol Another history lesson learned! Thanks to the wonderful world of metal detecting!! thumbsup01

    Excellent find Tim.
It is possible that this is part of lapel pin that was issued with each medal to all veterans of that particular war. Maybe it's the medal, maybe it's the lapel pin. Sorry I wasn't much help.
Either way it's an awesome piece of history.
    Congrats.

Your think your right on the money! It has to be a lapel pin. It's just a tiny little thing. The same size as that penny
In my searches I came across some [s]selling[/s] asking between $5 and $50 lol In similar condition as mine, i.e. missing the pin it's self and the back that holds it.

Cool pin Tim and thanks for the short history lesson. Hey, is this rain ever going to end in the Midwest. I'm sick of digging in the mud and dodging rain drops.
