Colonial hunt with Del

We were going to hit a baseball diamond today, but it ended up being private property So we quickly went down the road to some sites that are always good to us. One is what we call the Button Holes 5 cellar holes close to each other and we have found close to 600 buttons there The other is a site that has Fattie Indians, Shield nickels, and 2 cent pieces as rewards for the patient detectorist lol Also give up some nice Eagle buttons. Today was no exception. Here is what my area looks like after I come home and dump everything

And finally - the Eagle Button cleaned up nice like the other two I found from this site. There is corrosion, but a lot of gilt left too thumbsup01

Too bad about the ball field. crying01 But looks like your Plan B worked out very nicely.
Many nice keepers. I especially am admiring the IH. I just can't seem to come
up with a fat one. The button is gorgeous... it cleaned up beautifully. You guys are the
ones that got me hooked on buttons. I don't dig very many, but I certainly appreciate the
few I do get. Great hunt George.

The last time I was hunting my 'new' spot, I dug a plug and pulled out a thick green coin. Thought it was my first fatty <: but when
I rubbed it a bit on my pants, I realized it was two wheats perfectly stuck together. lol

It's about 600 buttons counting this bunch. I doubt it will make 700 unless the next series of machines make them buttons sing at 8 The baseball diamond is in a camp ground. Possible to maybe get permission after the season is over

sorry for my late reply everyone it was a very busy holiday weekend .

as Coinnut said the old baseball field was a minor setback but the area is riddled with decent standby cellars and anyone of them could produce a decent find to make your day. the button site still has promise but most targets are 7 plus inches or deeper now , mostly small buttons . we started here and it didn't dissapoint ,





these sites have been real good to us with tons of buttons and other relics
after several hours we decided to hit another very close site that also never seems to quit on finds



this place has produced around 50 coins to date and lots of civilian and military buttons . this is the site i found my coins for the day its been hit pretty hard over the years and i decided to hit an ajoining field that has been neglected by myself and others over the years . it paid off as i hit a little hot spot and pulled the coins and a couple of buttons from a small area.

I get overly excited if I am hunting sites around here from the mid 1800's.
Nice hit on the gorgeous 2 Cent Piece and all of the buttons. Also, if the LC is over half there... it counts! lol

The private ones you would need to get permission for. We hunt the ones that are allowable by the State.

We will hunt any cellar hole we can get permission for lol But most of what we do is around the late 1790' to early 1800's. Earlier than that, the targets are sparse and the coins are usually British half pennies. The later holes (@1850's) are full of flat stock and steel, so they are harder to detect. Modern ones (1900's and up) are just loaded with trash including burning pits >:# But any place that is new to us is a good place thumbsup01
