1892-S Barber Quarter and 1920 SLQ

What a way to start the year! Taking advantage of today's mild weather I took a drive to the park I had last worked this past December. When I arrived I saw that the park was mostly free of snow. The ground, though stiff, was relatively easy to dig into. I got to work, and less than an hour into the hunt I had my first silver.

I just love seeing the reeded edge of the larger silver coins while they are still in a clump of soil.

It turned out to be a beautiful 1892-S Barber quarter! There were 964,079 minted. A great find for sure!

Here it is after removing the sulfide.

A silver Roosevelt dime and several wheat cents later I hit on my third silver.

This one ended up being a 1920 Standing Liberty quarter. It's in great shape and with a full date.

Here are the rest of the coins, a 1952 Roosevelt dime, a 1944-P wartime silver nickel, and a good number of wheat cents.

If only this one had been with an S mintmark. 1909 VDB wheat.

The rest of the finds - a watch, which was actually my very first good target of the day, and a pocketknife.

Let's hope the good weather continues to hold.

    HH!

Well you waste no time on that silver Aye?? Glad to know last year wasn't a fluke And to think I actually felt sorry for you not being able to hunt when we were getting out What a great start and an S Barber...excellent Bet it felt good to swinging again and to see that silver rim sticking out. I'd say a pretty good first outing!!

It was painful seeing you guys out there pulling some great stuff while I stayed home drooling over the finds. It really was a very relaxing and pleasant day, and I had the park all to myself. I enjoyed the peace and quiet. The Barber quarter now joins the low mintage 1892-S Barber dime I found last year.

The silver king strikes again Winter can slow you down, but it just can't stop you, right?

Beautiful barber quarter, SLQ too! And you know... even if that watch had been a Rolex, I would not have heard about it

King? You mean jester, don't you?

Yeah, I barely glanced at the watch. I even had the urge to place it in the trash pouch.

What? No half's in that hunt of yours?

It's great that you can get out Angel. Things are thawing here a bit as well. Thanks for sharing. I am going to go outside now and chip some ice of the front step.

I was just glad to get out and detect for a while. I would have been happy with the watch alone.

But, yeah, the Barber and Standing Liberty quarter sure made my day.

    Thanks Dan!
