well heres a couple that are just about there cleaning-wise .... lol lol
when these coins were brought home they pretty much looked like this
covered with a very hard green verdigris thats very stubborn to separate from the coin.
the 1788 new jersey copper was on the outside of the spill as the front must have been down and the elements affected it more while the back was more protected by the next coin in the spill. its front side is very poreous , it is a common type for that year (Maris 67-v.) and probably the least in value
the back is in great shape and just needs a little more elbow grease to clean up.
the nxt copper is a 1787 fugio that i'm still unsure about the variety , it does have a flawed plachet which wasn't to uncommon to use back then . the front has some great detail but you'll notice in the upper left area there was a lowspot or cull in the die when it was pressed.
and heres the revers of the same coin
the next coin i thought was just another King George III copper turned out to be a 1774 Machin Mills counterfiet (Vlack3-74A variety ) , it has some wear and is a little rough around the edges but i'm happy with the way it turned out .
and the last i have to show you so far is the front of this 1787 clubed ray fugio (Newman 4-E) variety . it also has some great detail and is cleaning up well.
thanks all for the kind words , i hope thers more to come .

They cleaned up very nicely Dan. Beautiful details on those Fugios.
I can't find that exact one in Breens book either. The closest it comes is Breens # 1310 They do state that there are 28 varieties of that one. It is the little A in the word ARE that makes me think it's that one. I don't have a plate showing all the 28 varieties though. They are all looking good

Awesome post Dan! Must have been incredibly exciting to keep pulling those beauties out of the ground.
One definitely comes alive when a signal's reading and depth blend together in a perfect harmony.
Your hunch to hit the hill side was spot on.
These are really incredible finds. I'm very happy for you.
Extremely well done sir... extremely well done.
Beauty of a copper George. <: You guys find such old coins out there.
The two of your wreak some serious havoc on those old colonial site relics and coins.
Great hunt.

What a great find, I can understand why some of us would turn a bit looking at this haul. We don't have colonials in Mississippi, shoot even the Indians didn't want it. Congrats on a fantastic hunt. thumbsup01

thanks everyone ,
heres a couple of pictures of the last two fugios the backs are still unfinished so i only have the fronts to show as they need just a little more attention to complete.
this one is only half i'ded its a (Newman 15-? front variety) because of its die crack in the lower right side just outside of the sundial base . the back of this coin was on the other outer side of the coinspill so it does have some pitting going on the reverse .
the last i'm pretty certain is a (Newman 9-? front variety) the back is starting to clean up well .
soon i hope to post a few shots of them all together somewhat like were some 200+ years ago when they first got lost. thanks all for staying tuned through out this process.
heres a before shot of them all dirty and corroded
and heres on of them together mostky cleaned up
