First big silver with my E-Trac

I just recently got home from a vacation in Mexico, did you miss me? lol
I didn't take my metal detector but I sure thought about it a lot when I was on the beach in Cancun!

Anyway, today I went hunting at a local school that I had driven past hundreds of times but had never hunted because I thought it was too obvious and surely hunted out. Turns out I was wrong.

I hunted in the most conspicuous place, on the front lawn by the sidewalks. There were lots of modern coins, but some deeper wheat cents too so that gave me hope that there might be silver. After about an hour I found the 1950-D Rosie which caused me to slow down and concentrate a little harder. I got a solid signal with the depth indicated at about 6. I could not believe my eyes when a silver half popped out of the hole! I could see enough of the reverse to tell it was a Walking Liberty, but I didn't want to rub it so I left the dirt on it until I got home. It ended up being a 1928-S, the oldest Walking Liberty Half I have found. It is my sixth Walker, and first with my E-Trac. She's worn, but I don't care. Made my day!

Fantastic hunt Tony. The WLH is a nice, big beautiful piece of silver. I bet when you caught first glimpse
of her a big smile came to your face. Nice job getting your sixth one.
Kind of funny how the first silver of a hunt immediately slows you down quite a bit. I'm the same way.
    Congrats Tony.

I went back to the same school for a couple of hours after work today. Nothing too spectacular this time, but I did get another silver.

Another hunt at the school, another lone 1945 Merc. It's deja vu all over again! lol

I went back again after work tonight. This time I found a few more wheat cents to go with the Merc. The school grounds have definitely been hunted before me, but there is still enough old deep coins to keep me interested. I found a mini-spill this time, the 1916 and 1918 wheats were right on top of each other in the same hole.

    Back To School!

I had a free Saturday afternoon, so of course I decided to go back to the school to see if there was more silver to be found.

Here's a photo of the nerd in action:

I had a decent day of detecting. I was happy to find more than one silver coin this time. Several wheats again too. The 1917 Merc is extremely worn. If there was once a mint mark it has long since been obliterated. There is still quite a bit of ground at this school that I haven't covered yet. Some return trips will definitely be on the agenda! Thanks for looking and happy hunting!
