PRIZM V
Oldest coin 1895 IH
Only about 6 inches, it was in clay though ( reason for it being almost corrosion free) I have found about 8 of these and most are pitted beyond cleaning. In Maine if you don't find silver or gold its almost always unrecognizable.Originally Posted by del link=topic=8023.msg91497#msg91497 date=1322686410

yeah Ian , here in Connecticut as well . probably on average only 4 coppers out of 20 are in decent shape but i found out that certain places around old homesites can produce better quality than the norm.Originally Posted by Moxie link=topic=8023.msg91499#msg91499 date=1322686959

Very nice find for that short hunt. Your right about the coppers coming out like toast. Del knows the secret though, search the slopes. On the flats the moisture stays and corrodes the coppers but on the slopes the water runs away. Hope I got that right.

Oh mamma... now that is a beauty. Such an incredibly old coin.
I'm sure glad you rescued her from the ground. I can only imagine the thrill of hunting a property from 1789.
Congratulations sir.
He sure does , especially when he finds them six at a time.Originally Posted by aloldstuff link=topic=8023.msg91501#msg91501 date=1322688975
