Information on vintage White's/Bounty Hunter detector?

When I was back in Iowa over the holidays my grandmother (who is 97 years old) gave me her old metal detector. She asked me to please get it working and to find some old coins with it.

When I became interested in detecting years ago I had no idea that my grandmother had ever had an interest in detecting, let alone owned a detector and enjoyed the hobby. As it turned out, we both have found old coins at the same fairgrounds in Iowa several decades apart.

Anyway, this is a Bounty Hunter Automatic 8400 VLF/TR Discriminator metal detector. I do have the manual. There is no date though, and I can't seem to find any information on its age - anyone have any idea?

The back cover says it has a lifetime warrantee and that all I have to do is send it in with five dollars to cover return shipping and handling ( lol ). I wonder what they would do if I actually sent this thing in with a five dollar bill.

Send it in with your Grandmas address as the original buyer. They have to honor it.

    Thanks guys

Thanks too for the link Dan. I had looked at that site originally but missed the date. 8/ Now if I can just get the thing to work. (I fear that if I send it in, it will just come back to me.... or worse yet, it won't come back to me.... BH has changed hands several times since then).

That looks to be in great shape! IT belongs in a TH'ing museum. I have a bunch of old detecting mags. I will see if I can find any ads for them. They loved to put full page ads for them in the mags back in the day.

I've repaired a few machines before. Old detectors I bought from yard sales. If you want to send it to me I'll see what I can do. Of course, NO CHARGE for you
