Looking for help on this buckle I have not seen one like it before, my wife found this at a cellar hole of an 1840's house. Dimensions are 2 x 1 5/8 and the offset is just a shade over 1/4.

looks like a shoe buckle to me,other than that can't help you.

I would lean towards horse tack since the buckle looks like it is designed to handle some thick leather. The one in this picture seems similar.
