My wife participated in her first cat show yesterday. She showed our cats as “household pets” as they were rescues. The show was an hour from our house. I spent a few hours watching the cats (nice ribbons all around ) then met Merc for some hours of detecting a beautiful site. I did some research and luckily found a cellar hole on public land, not three miles from the show. Large cattle run leading from a barn foundation, beautiful root cellar, two cellar holes-one with central chimney, many pens, and a nice colonial road passing by the main hole. I wasn’t there one minute when I found a small flat button that I promptly lost during the day. Easy come, easy go. 8/ I made sure I didn’t lose a large cloak button that I found a few hours later.
There were many nice sounding targets. Many blobs of lead or pewter (see pic). I threw in a dog tag, keyhole with cover, and an embarrassing wheat from last week. I think that large iron thing is a horse shoe remover?
The coin was found on the road, near the main hole. It seems to be a King George II, Hibernia Irish half cent c.1750s. …unless someone has a better idea.
I apologize for the lack of cleaning.
9 degrees this AM ….could the season be over? NOOO!
