A Merc and Two Large Cents....I Think.

Hit a woods spot this morning that had a home that dates to the 1840's. Dug the '45 merc and then a few minutes later got a large cent (can't get a date) . Next few minutes get another 80 VDI and dig another large cent, pretty toasted but I think I can make out a bust facing left. Can't be sure on this one , back is smooth with some marks that look like it was hit with something. Any one have a guess? Thanks, Mike

! Nice finds! Did the weather turn around for you again? It's mild here today but kind of sloppy. Don't know if I'll get out or not. Congrats on the early season finds |

2 LC's and a silver is great. I'll be betting that you will be getting back to that spot. Congrats on your finds

Nice hunt Mike ! I think the one in question is a large. I found one that looked very similar as far as wear and coloration. I eventually could pull a 7 off of it and a few details and figured out it was a 1837. Mine had the worn flat side too.

Try putting a piece of paper over it and do an etching with a crayon on it's side. I have been able to pull details of what appears to be a flat coin with this mthod.

    Great finds
