Thread: I was skeptical. But not now!

  1. #1

I was skeptical. But not now!

I have seen so many people telling about all the old coins they were finding in bean and corn fields. And i gotta admit i was skeptical about their claims, but not any more! I have two farm fields right across the road from my house. A couple days ago my wife had a chance to talk to the guy who farms them. She said he had no problem with my detecting out there when he didn't have crops growing.
So today (after i got the laundry and dishes done) i headed over to run the E-trac
over the muddy lumps. My first find from my 15 minute hunt was a neat brass nozzel thing.
The next find caused me to stop my hunt and head back to the house to hit the sink and scrub brush. What was it? <: just the oldest coin i have found so far!!!
And it was only about 50 yards from my front picture window.
It's another first for me and i still can't believe it. An 1849 large cent!

    Here's pics.......

I too was skeptical until I tried my first field hunt about 5 years ago. Now farm fields are one of my favorites places to hunt. Congrats on a great find and Good Luck on your return trips. HH

Congrats on your LC! I was never a field skeptic. Being fairly new to metal detecting, but a long time history buff, fields have been one of my go to places to hunt! WTG and keep hitting that area year after year!

Sweet find! So those farm field really do produce. I've got to try a few this coming year.

A big congratulations on the LC... especially since it has been waiting all this time just 50 yards away. Very well done RaZR... very well done.
