Thread: Park Silver

    Park Silver

John (midas) and I headed out this morning to detect at a local park. We concentrated our efforts on one of the fields where the ground has thawed out enough to allow digging. In the afternoon we met up with another member, Tim (MassDirtFisher). He was busy working his XLT detecting an area closer to one of the roads. Eventually we introduced ourselves and had a nice chat. It's always great to be able to meet up with other forum members.

Here is John with both his Spectra V3 and the Minelab XTerra70. He wasn't taking any chances on missing anything.

I managed to dig up eight silver coins, two Barber dimes, dated 1903-O and 1907, two mercury dimes, dated 1941 and 1942, and four Roosevelt dimes, dated 1946, 1946, 1949, and 1949-D. No large silver, but maybe next time.

Here is the 1903-O Barber dime while still encased in soil.

I picked up a few wheat cents too.

    Spring can't arrive soon enough!

    HH!

Nice silver day Deja vu, is it 2009 again? Seems the parks are slowly unfreezing enough to dig. It's supposed to be warm this week so more of your hunting areas should open up. Congrats on a great silver day. I think one of those Barbers needs your aluminum foil trick

Nice silver Angel. Any bets on whether or not Angel finds more silver than the rest of the forum this year?

Nah, it's not going to happen guys. Unfortunately for us, silver does not get replenished. But, this year I set a goal of 120, and I'll be more than happy if I can meet it.

John is a good sport. We had taken a break and where goofing off then. He brought both detectors to run comparisons on undug targets. He is primarily a shallow water detectorist and a very successful one too, but he will do some dirt digging once in a while. We had a great time and plenty of laughs.

I really can't wait for spring! It's no fun trying to punch through hard, icy soil at a park with a small trowel.

Hey, it really was great to hear about the amazing finds you have made over the past few years! Hopefully we can get together sometime this year. I'll be looking forward to seeing posts of your finds.

Now I'm going to go into a long silver drought. I'm just hoping to average 10 a month, and that's pushing it.

It's a method I use to remove heavy sulfide buildup from silver coins. I leave lightly tarnished coins as they are though. You can see an example here.

I'm envious of the Silver and the GREEN GRASS. Snow and more snow where I'm at, but it did melt off a bit today still weeks away though . Congrats on the finds and new friend.
