    1634 old tavern site

oi oi chaps , so the day after me and angel hunted together i decided to go back over the green where we had detected armed with the knowledge the master had shared with me but before i even turned me detector on i was confronted by a bloke . fearing the worst i took my headphones off ready for a punch up but no !!! he asked me very kindly if i would like to detect his property that was the origanal site of the old tavern and that all he wanted out of the deal was to look at what i found , im like bloody hell yes but after chating about the hobby for a good 30mins it was getting dark so i decided to go back the next day.
when i arrived he showed me old foundations from 1634 , the origanal old fireplace that he had turned into a b-b-q pit , an old 1850 barn and 20 acars of farmed field .....i was in heaven !!!!.
i put my detector to the ground then looked up and who should i see across the road ? angel !!.
after telling him about the site we both began to detect the farm field. with only a few buttons to show for it after an hour angel decided he was gona go to another site just down the road so we shook hands and i began to hunt the garden.
after 20 mins i had 13 wheat pennys but then got a good high signal on the whites coinmaster at 4 inches . out pops the plug and there was a 1897 barber quarter , my very first ! i was over the moon and after falling in love with angels barber quarter from the day before i was so happy i yelled... YES!!!!.
the next day i hunted with larry at the same spot and my second signal was at 2 inches and showing up as another quarter , imagine my suprize when out pops this stunning 1798 large cent ...by this time im pinching me self and expecting the wife to wake me up with a nice cup-o-tea !!!!.
anyway after getting it home and giving it no more than a wash under a tap i see the date looks like an 8 punched over the top of a 9 thinkingabout:? or visa versa.
anyway here is a few pictures

and here is a nice buckle and a thingie from the same site and a silver pendent from a few weeks ago

hey Lee does it have a rotated reverse ( meaning the back is mis-aligned with the front ) just how you have it in the first two pictures??

Hey Lee! Those are some awesome finds you picked up from the yard. I bet your eyes were bulging out after each find. lol I have to take a closer look at some of the buttons I picked up while we were detecting the farm field. Some do look to be very old. Congrats on some great finds!!

    Re: 1634 old tavern site

well as you can see i just went round larrys house to try and get some better pics of the coin and as larry said its like the blind leading the blind .
so heres a request , if anyone in connecticut can take some nice close up pics for me im willing to drive or you can come round my place and being a butcher by trade i will make sure 2lb of best english style bangers (sausage) comes your way and a nice steak .
the reason i need some good pictures of this coin is del thinks it maybe a rare repunched 1798/99 but he is not sure , if it is im taking the whole forum out for a drink !!!!
so please if anyone could help me out here i would realy be greatfull.

    Re: 1634 old tavern site

hey Lee that might not be necessary as those pictures might be the deciding factor , i'm just waiting for one more large cent specialist ( collector ) to look at it and give his thoughts .

the reason its been this long is because the coin definately shares the same reverse die as the 1799/8 variety . the only thing is there was an outbreak of yellow fever back then in late 1798 and most of 1799 so production was halted and when it resumed they were using many of th same dies on both coins (1798 and 1799) , so there is alot of confusion.
i should have confirmation later tonight .
