I showed the kids at school my finds. One student was enthused enough to beg his parents for a MDer for Christmas. He asked if I could take him out to the fields that surround our school. We finally got out yesterday. My district is the voag provider for the surrounding towns. Our students raise livestock, corn, wheat, etc farmie etc. I've hit some of the fields to very limited success but was thrilled to see the field nearest the original property owner's house was freshly ploughed. We were out there for 90 min exactly, I know because that was the student's pickup time. I was glad when he found some 19th century dudads. His first older items.
I was also glad that between helping him swing correctly, pinpoint, dig, etc I was able to find my first silver thimble, an 1838 largie, and what I think is an 1842/3 large date braided hair. The button is sweet, and was found over the weekend. I don't think this field has been hit at all...the only problem is they are planting on Friday. Oh well, get 'em next year.
