Black Friday is a tradition event that a lot of people participate in, getting rushed, crushed and pushed at the mall! Well I have a tradition on the day after Thanksgiving is Track Friday, I go to the fields to track out some old finds!

Typical for Ohio fields are such finds, Diane calls them “Choice Junk”! Bits of brass and copper including an old pocket watch piece and a clock plate and one of the things I like to find the old ceramic door knobs.

My first stop was at a field that on Veterans day produced two Large Cents, an Luggage Tag, and a Eagle button. I was pleased to see that when the farmer spread some fertilizer pellets he also knocked down the corn stalks this mad swinging the coil easier and opened up some more areas to hunt in. Besides the above “relics” I got a scratchy 12-36 signal on the CTX and after pulling out 4 small square nails I found the target an 1890 Indian Head!

I spent a lot of time in this field going slowly trying to pick good targets out of the massive iron. The Indian was the best find. I will hit this again going in the opposite direction on my grid.

After a short break I went to another site in the same field, this is the field that Diane got the Seated Dime the other day. This site is smaller than the previous one and today it was not giving up much and I was moving fast as I was running out of time. I got some bits of lead which sounded good but not much else when I got a sweet sound and a 13-46 signal which on the 45 degree angle moved to a 12-46 and held steady. It turned out to be my streak saver! It is an 1846 Large Cent. This makes 4 years in a row that the first hunt after Thanksgiving (3 on the Friday and 1 on Saturday) that I have gotten a Large Copper. One 1837 Hard Times token and three Large Cents! Now I will feel the pressure next year for sure!
