    Best Day Ever!

Yesterday I had my best day to date. It all started out with getting right to digging at a 1805 site I had secured permission to a while back. On a spur of the moment Friday night with wanting to get out Saturday, I called up one of my buddies and asked if he wanted to go for a drive and hit a few of my sites. He was free and open for a full day of digging! We arrive and start swinging at my first site which was built in 1805 at 8:30am. My friend DJ and I start swinging and digging with a few wheats and some junk coming up. About 15 minutes in my buddy pulls a worn but awesome KGII! Was pumped to see him pull an awesome old coin like that and knew that then we were on a sweet site. About 2 minutes later I get my coil over a high but faint signal. Ringing up a 95 on the ATPro. As soon as i hear it I say over to DJ "Oh boy". I have him come over and swing over it and he feels the same. at this point we both are thinking I have myself a half, but as you can never be sure with things like this I just dig my hole without getting my hopes up. I pull out the plug at about 7 inches deep and see a BIG SILVER RIM looking up right at me from the bottom of my hole! As soon as I see it I say to DJ "Dude its a half!!" He comes right over and we both get our cameras ready. I pull it out slowly and right away see that it's a Barber Half! Once I pull it out I can immediately see the date as 1908 and a mint mark of New Orleans! After freaking out and taking pictures i get up and swing over the hole and then the plug...DING DING DING!!! Another signal comes out over the plug!! I yell over to DJ "It's got friends!!" So we both look over the plug and break it open to then notice a quarter sized silver fall loose and see it's a Barber Quarter! I can see the date right away and notice it is 1899! My best spill ever!

After taking pictures and going crazy with excitement we both get back to swinging. I move my way to the side yard where I notice a huge pine tree used to stand. I swing around it and first find to shallow wheats. Then I get a deep high 80's signal. About 6 inches down I pop out a large copper! After a light field cleaning I notice it's an 1822 Matron Head LC. We move on to digging a bit more and then head out because the owner was leaving as well. We move on to door knocking and get one no, so we then decided to go to one of my good old trusty honey holes. We get to swinging and my FIRST HOLE is a high 60's-low 70's signal in where poison ivy would have taken over in the summer when I first found the site. I dig down about 5 inches and pull out a nickel sized coin and think I have myself a buff....NOPE! I rub it off a bit and then notice it's a 2 Cent Piece! It looks as if someone had pinched it with something long ago to give it the odd marks. Still an awesome coin in great shape to me! The date was clear and showed me 1864! After a little longer my buddy scores a beautiful 1875 Indian. We go a little longer and then move on to another door knock site. Built in 1760. Unfortunately the whole site had been filled but it being around 11:00am we were happy when the owner offered us some coffee! We quickly moved on from that site and went to my best site I've dug at in the area. Having hit it around 10 times before where I found my first copper I didn't expect much to come out.

Boy oh boy was I wrong! We start going and about 15 minutes in I come up with a nice Tombac button. We keep on swinging and come up with a few interesting things and then I pull out my first ever Knee Buckle! An early one too! 1720's-1750's. Was super pumped to had found it and even more shocked I had missed it all these times! The rest of my finds from there consisted of a piece of a shoe buckle frame, buffalo nickel, about 3 spoons, and a few other odds and ends! DJ also got a piece of a shoe buckle frame, a V Nickel, a couple buffs and some other cool relics.

I had a blast and it sure was a day to remember! Enjoy the pictures!Name: IMG_6123.jpg
