It got above freezing today so I couldn't resist getting out with my new five inch coil. I went to an old park that I have been to many times with my Etrac and dug a steady 12-4 signal, and at seven inches deep I found this......Love my etrac.

I have been looking and the only thing even close is a cufflink.
It's an odd looking piece. I want to say it is a lid to something small, maybe a snuff box. That hole may not be to wear it, since it would hang wrong. That hole may be where a post is located so you can swing the piece off to the side and expose the inner part of a box. Just a thought on it.

Not yet, I will see one today.
Thats one nice piece of gold. congrats on the great find. like everyone else puzzled as to what it is.
I found these two items online they bear a resemblance to the item you found. There victorian the cuff link said circa 1880's and the other is a locket.
Interesting find, tried to look around online and even asked my wife what she thought, she wasn't sure either. She has a lot of knowledge in historic fashion and jewelry. Unusual to stump her on something like that. Good luck in figuring out what it is. Safe & HH
Wow!!! First gold for you is a great beauty bamaart! Awesome recovery!!! A big congrats to you.
Great research njjosh.
Thanks everyone, The jeweler said that he did not know what it was either. He scratched it and said that he thought the center was gold over another metal and that he felt that the outside rim was solid gold. Either way...it looks good in my display case.
Love the Gold! Awesome ID Josh!
