    Wheat's - button - toy gun - cleaned button

Went back to a farm that I had visited a couple of weeks ago with Rob and Tim.

If you can remember we took 31 wheat's out of the front yard and that is where I hunted today. Managed to get 3 more wheat's - 1913 - 1921 - 1944.

Also got a nice gold gilt button, shank intact. Back mark says Robinson Extra Rich.

I am assuming that the toy gun will be a Cracker Jack one, if someone knows for sure please respond. I put a penny in for size reference.

I also got what I think is the tail end of a spoon.

Was nice to get out....HH to everyone.

nice button Al , George and I found a couple with that design and boy did they shine up with the gold gilt after cleaning. either a little lemon juice and a toothbrush or some diluted clr and water with a tooth brush will bring it out .

Your button cleaned up real nice, hope I can do the same with this one. Do you use a 50/50 with the CLR?

on these copper-alloy two piece button fronts the mixture is more like 25% clr to 75% water Al , wet the brush in the solution then scrub it on until you see the foam start to discolor . rinse the button and the brush and repeat until your happy with results , never let the button soak in the mixture .

That's a nice old button, Al!

I hope it cleans up as good as Dan's. We just don't find those old buttons here in Illinois. I find them fascinating. Wonderful personal items with a lot of history.

Added a picture of the cleaned button using Dan's method. I think it came out pretty good, now on to the other buttons....

came out great Al , really looks nice you can either give it a thin coat of baby oil or vaseline to keep the exposed copper areas from getting a type of "haze" look or re-corroding.
