Vintage Tom Mix premium Magnet Ring

Now that we can't get out detecting since the ground is covered in snow, I figured I'd share a neat find I made 3 weeks ago.

We were out detecting a picnicking area that dates back to at least the mid 1920s. About half way through our hunt I found a little hot spot that started popping out quite a few wheaties. So I slowed down and did a semi thorough grid on a area approximately 20 ft. X 60 ft. In the middle of that area was a giant oak tree! Amongst the older coins I got a signal that I figured would be another wheat or a memorial cent and out pops a copper ring!

I couldn't make out the design on the side of it while I was in the field. All I could see was a large M on the side of it. After finding a couple of premium rings in the past I recognized this rings weight and the unique logo on it and knew it was a good one. I brought it home and cleaned it up.

It took some searching on the Web but I finally spotted the logo! Tom Mix? Never heard of him. Turns out he was pretty popular in the 40's! This was a premium ring from his radio show in the mid 40's!

It's the Tom Mix Magnet ring!
Although not as pretty and awe inspiring as it was back in the 40's when some young kid got it out of the mailbox.

    But still a cool find!
I even managed to snag a couple of pieces of silver! A Rosie and a Merc!

    Thanks for lookin & HH!
Merry Christmas and a Happy killer find filled New Year! ⭐

Yeah, definitely go through the your junk rings! After I got my copy of the Overstreet Toy Ring guide I realized I had 2 other premium rings! This makes #4 for me.
    Here's the magnet ring.

Thanks WD! It took a little bit of scrolling through pictures on Google. But once I spotted that M with the funny angled line it didn't take long to ID it.

Thanks so much Al! It's pretty gratifying when your able to positively ID a find!
I picked up the ring guide online somewhere. I think it was Amazon? I think I payed 12 bucks for mine.
Happy Hunting to you too this upcoming 2017 season buddy!

Thanks Dan! I like finding items like this! I'm primarily a coinshooter but I'd rather find this ring over just another wheatie. Plus it's a little history lesson for me! Gotta love that! (Mom sure would be surprised to hear that )
The ring guide is nice to have. If any of the membership here has a premium ring and would like me to look it up I'd be happy to!
I remember when Tony found his Roy Rogers ring I came right home and looked it up.

Thanks Drew! The snow is melting as I type this. It was around 50 degrees today! Was going to go out and hunt a field site but it would've been a muddy mess.

Nice ring find, Tim. Def not any character from back then that has still some mention today, so I had no idea of him. Maybe cuz it was a radio show vs a TV show.
