Well the 1/8 x 10 probe with brass tip is just that...a probe.
The 12 coin popper with the piece of hardwood was made long for leverage. I would think that a coin at 5-6 or more, would be easier to remove using a 12 popper than an 6or 8 popper...the hardwood just makes it a lot easier to apply leverage and slides on the tool so it is always at the correct location no matter what the depth of the coin.
