Not having been able to go detecting during the weekdays, I was hoping to get in a few hours during the weekend. This afternoon I did just that. I had in mind detecting at a small new site located in MA, but the one-hour or so drive it would take to get to this new location had me a bit hesitant to make the trip since I wanted to make the best of the few hours I had available. But I just had to give it a try. Just in case, I selected a backup site to head to in the event the new one did not work out. But as it turned out, I didn't have to turn to it... the new site proved to be a good one, yielding me several nice keepers.
Among the keepers were these four silver coins - a 1796 Spanish Half Reale, a 1944 mercury dime, and two Barber dimes, dated 1901 and 1906.
The site was not stingy with the old coppers either. I picked up three, a 1803 Draped Bust large cent (my 12th Draped Bust large cent this year), a 1846 Braided Hair Liberty Head large cent, and a Coronet Liberty Head. I am still unable to make out the year on that one though.
The Indian Head cents I picked up did not fair well in that soil, but at least the two older ones, both dated 1864, are the better of the four.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
