Small tribe of Indians and seated silver

Now that I can finally get out again I hit an old favorite on Sunday. Didn't find much silver, but it happened to be a decent 1857 seated dime. I'll take that any day. Although it was worn, it was basically problem free and a nice coin. I also found 7 Indians, but I cheated, 3 were in one hole. Also pulled up as nice silver heart. Feels good to be out again. Ended up with 10 silver my first week back from the big freeze. Pics are high res if you want a closer look click on them and then click again.

Wow! Congrats on the awesome 1857 Seated Dime! That's a terrific find!

Some of the Indian Heads look like older ones too. What are the dates on them? I can almost make out 1867 and 1874?

You're not that far away so maybe the melting will happen this way within the next few days. Crazy when you pull out only IH and no wheaties. Looks like a nice old place to hit.

Oh I pulled out 15-20 wheaties, but after 35 years of detecting I don't really count those. Also probably pulled over 50 clad, but I'd rather find one silver or Indian than a fist full of clad. Did I mention the pull tabs, parts of pull tabs, screw caps and small iron pieces I dug : )

Wow. Snippy. Some have their ways. Usually I don't show the iron I dig, or the pull tabs if I do ever hit a park but Ill show the wheats. The iron I get is always big. No mention of the site and only the older stuff was shown it was just figured the finds dictated time the site was used. NBD.

Great job Don ! That was a fantastic day out. That seated dime is really nice, specially the reverse. Once the thought of hitting you on the neck with my shovel faded away, I even managed to be glad for you ! (I won't even mention the 3 IH in one hole...)

Sorry Charles, but you started finding Indians so quickly I had to do something. Finding 3 in one hole helped me catch up.

Nice site you have there Don. Seated dime is worn, but I agree with your sentiments...I'll take a worn seated coin any day over a fist-full of wheats, or clad for that matter. Is the frost all out of the ground where you are?

Unfortunately not John. We had to cancel a club hunt for this weekend because there's still snow on the ground and it's mostly frozen. Had to travel about an hour south to get to a spot to hunt, but it was worth it. Even though the forecast for tomorrow is brisk with a high of 37 and flurries, I'm heading back out. If the ground is thawed, I can usually dress warm enough to overcome it. The big problem is when it's windy. I can detect when it's in the 20's, but throw in 20-30 MPH winds with cold temps and it sends me back inside. The big thing that keeps me out there is warm feet and the only shoes that work are these: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/83395...ductId=1393231
