Finally! Got Out For A Good Hunt

I did OK in the corn field that's literally across the road from my house.

Another 1844 Bank of Montreal Half Penny Token

An 1847 Large Cent

An 1820 Large Cent drilled to use as a button

Some sort of pin (plain back with solder where the pin was)

A fancy button w/back mark.

A small plain button w/back mark

And a plated spoon.

Not bad for a two hour hunt that I didn't have to drive to.

:shocked05:wow Longhair , the eagle button is a very early one .the U.S.I. stands for United States Infantry , i can see part of the regiment number on the lower left it looks like 6 or 16 . this would date from just before or at the same time as the war of 1812 era. its a great button .erfect10:

I would live in that field :lol: Great finds. The bank token and 1 other copper would make a nice hunt. But all that in just a couple hours is an amazing hunt!!! :envious: Green with envy :shocked04:

yes yours looks like a 6th regiment and seems to have some of that silver plating still on it , what backmark is on yours??

I must admit that I'm really not much of a button guy. It probably has to do with there not being much in the way of war or battles fought around here. So please pardon my ignorance. For me, much of the learning about various finds occurs after I've found something, so I'll be looking into this button and the 6th Regiment extensively.

Does anyone know anything about either of the other buttons? Dates? Makers?

I knew that there had been a building on that land, and I've swept around before trying to find it. But today I had time, took a more literal look at an 1859 topo map that I have, and decided to give it another shot before it got planted again. PAY DIRT!

Longhair , the other buttons are early ones 1800's to maybe 1820 , those war of 1812 uniforms had lots an lots of buttons on them so i wouldn't be surprise to see you find a few more. you could get lucky and pull up a belt or hat plate too.

I find it interesting that someone would drill holes in a coin to use it as a button! I wonder if it was a fashion statement or just cheaper than buying a replacement button? Kewl finds by the way.
