As my son mentioned, my wife and I recently moved from southern NH to New York. Long story short, the whole process took a lot of time leaving very little opportunity to metal detect. The year before that was filled with 'life events' so basically I'm just getting back into detecting after a...
Ok. Couldn't figure out how to add this to my previous post. Probably too many pictures.
Finally, this past Memorial holiday I drove up to New York to visit my son and he was a great host. He brought me to some of his best sites which he may be regretting now. The first day on one site didn’t...
Let me get started with an apology for being absent from the forum for a while. Unlike previous New England winters where I could get out and detect, this past winter was cold and snowy so being unable to detect, I got sidetracked finishing up various projects around the house some of which I am...
I went out to a site that had a couple of old foundations and where there was a documented find of an 1830 Capped Bust dime. Unfortunately I didn't have any such luck but further in the woods I did come across a damaged shoe buckle. I tried to research it but there is just a ton of information...
Since my last post, I have been out swinging about 5 or 6 times and I think my little streak of silver has come to a dead stop. While I wasn't getting silver on every single hunt, I was getting a little something every two or three hunts but no longer. My last site I went to was where I found...
I got out for another hunt on Tuesday after getting skunked on Monday and managed some silver.

I decided to head back to the woods and got the first coin curse. I headed to this picnic area which was hunted previously judging from all the open holes left behind. Fortunately I worked my way out and about 30 feet from the tables I found a fire truck and not too far from that my first coin...
My last 6 or 7 wood hunts have not been so great and yielded only a small amount of clad so I thought I would shake things up a bit and hunt a park today. It started out slow and ended up slow but in between I dug up a very dark coin that I thought was another clad quarter (the signal wasn't all...
I have been continuing with my wood hunts with varying success. On Friday the 11th I hit a new area and all I got was a bit of clad.

I skipped the Columbus holiday as everyone was out, the parks were full of kids playing soccer, baseball and whatever. I was concerned about...
Wood hunting can sometimes lead to some very interesting finds that does not involve something you dig up. Here are some pictures of something that really amazed me. I can state without doubt that the metal circle does not have a weld mark indicating some kind of a prank.
Thanks for looking.
Haven't been out much since my amazing Monday. Friday I started out, got a little clad including a clam quarter and then it started to rain. I didn't know clad coins could peel apart like that. Tuesday I got out and just got a little bit of clad. Wednesday was my best day with a cheap watch...

Would you interpret this as a polite way of saying no metal detecting? It was posted at a wooded area I wanted to hunt and I'm not sure myself.
Thank you.
I just posted the finds from this past weekend and the previous week so now here is my Monday hunt which just blew me away. Last Friday after a stretch of very little finds, my luck started to improve. On Monday I decided to go back to the site where I found the three silver Rosies. I hesitated...
Since my short hunt where I found three silver Rosies, the weather has been simply wonderful so I've spent a lot of time detecting. This hobby can be strange to say the least. I have spent days hitting old parks and various fields walking away in some cases with barely a couple of clad coins. I...
I was considering detecting in some New York state parks and was reading the application for the permit. I was curious if anyone on this site has ever detected on any of those site locations and have had to give up their finds. It sounds a little extreme to me unless you really came up a with a...
