Hello all.
I would like to share with you what I think are fantastic tools when it comes to cleaning finds.
And we are all going to spend quite some time doing so this winter as it may become impossible to go out. I am posting pictures of an Indian Head Penny that I cleaned using those...
Hello all,
A few pics of my last hunt in 2015. (12/31/15)
A 1790 coin of Louis XVI
An intriguing object. Not yet IDed. But the design looks pretty old to me !
Missing in those pics is a super worn 17th century double tournois.
Happy New Year and Happy Hunting to all !
Hello all,
These are my finds from yesterday : nice thimbles, roman coins, 17th century coins, including a very nice 1639 double tournois of King Louis XIII.
But, I also found this... It is my first big silver coin. It is as big as a Morgan dollar !!
It was waiting for me in the vineyards...
Hello all,
Sorry, meant "Finds FROM France" in the title...
We were able to go back to our families in France for Christmas. It was also a nice opportunity to go metal detecting.
Here is a nice find from my first day out, a huge follis of Roman Emperor Maximianus.
Obverse ...
Hello all,
Last Saturday, I went MDing to a park with my detecting buddy don in ny. It was an awesome day out ! Beautiful weather, we had had some rain a few days before and therefore the ground conditions were about perfect.
We had a slow start but things went better when don in ny told me we...
Hi guys,
Went out yesterday for an hour. Not many targets but again... a very nice surprise !
Here are a roman coin and an antique... something? Too thick and too small to be a finger ring. Don't know exactly what it is but it's bronze.
And then this beauty !! It is said to belong to the...
Hi all,
Went out yesterday. A couple of finds and a very nice bonus !
From top left to bottom right : a "double tournois" (17th century), a piece of lead, a small button, a crotal bell (number "3"), a tiny roman (probably a "nummus") and another lead ingot.
AND... A neolithic axe made out...
Will definitely bring them to the club. :)
I went out again yesterday as a friend and my big brother came to visit us in the South. It was my brother's first time metal detecting... ever !
I lent him my E-Trac and kept my Deus (boy, I love that machine now !!). I told him a few basics about...
Hi all,
I went back out and had some very nice surprises !!
Here is the view from the field :
Let's start with the "common finds". From top left to bottom right : three 20th century lead seals, a couple 18th (?) century buttons, a small lead ingot (what was it for?? making musket balls? I...
Hi all,
Went back out 2 days ago. Here is the result :
An old (bronze?) key. I don't know what it was for... but I like it. :)
Unidentified items :
2 lead seals and a button
Old ring (Roman with some design on it but can't make it out), a 17th/18th century coin, a 17th century coin and...
Thank you all guys !
Unfortunately, the reverse is worn and smooth. Also, as you can see, the coin was not well centered when cut. Here is a pic of a very nice one (found on the Internet, not one of mine) showing more of the design. As you can see, on the obverse, there is a cubist head. On...
Hi all,
I am spending the Summer back in France. Went out 3 times so far. The first time, I just couldn't dig at all. The ground was as hard as rock. No matter what I would do or use, I would only take chips out at best.
Then, we drove to my wife's cousin. Went out again, and found a couple of...
Thanks for your feedback guys ! The back is pretty plain. To me, it looks pretty old. Chief, that could be it ! Del, thanks for the info on the letters. I didn't know that !
Hello all,
Was out last weekend and found this. Have no clue what it can be. All I can think of is some part of an old car. All letters can be easily read and the Co at the end probably stands for Company. I can't figure out exactly the order of the other letters : EMRT...? Diameter is 4...
