Finally got out.... didn't find much.

All I found in 2 hours of hunting was this (I also found a deer bone that I thought may have been used by the arrowhead makers but since it wasn't made out of metal I lost it. \:[):

    Determining counterfeit silver?

Is an accurate test on silver coins the ring and pitch it makes if you tap them? Does the pitch matter or is it the length of the bell tone/vibration? Does anyone know? :dontknow: This is the suspected fake, two ANA members told me it was real they physically looked at it with a magnifier...

    '65 Quarter?

I have heard that the '65 Washington Quarter was a small amount of silver in it. My Uncle who is a big time coin collector is collecting '65 Quarters. Does anyone know of any truth to that? A recent post by Milco showing a dug '65 surely doesn't look like a dug clad quarter (at least current...

detecting scenario...what would you expect - brick sidewalks

So... Yesterday while working my current yard project...I unearthed a brick sidewalk that is no longer used. It is about 2 inches down...now I have noticed (and this is how I found a sidewalk) I get a rediculously high signal (HEY STUPID - there is a coin right there signal) it bounces back and...

Back at the Barber spill location (3 IH and a 2 cent piece)

Today at the yard of the Barber Spill of 2011 ( lol ) I found 3 Indian Head pennies and a 2 Cent piece! This is pre-cleaning (just water and a soft tooth brush), years are 1883, 1866, and 1885, and the 2 cent piece is 186_ (something...just don't know yet :dontknow: ).

    Help! 2 cent piece!

I haven't taken pictures yet, but I found 3 Indian Head pennies but also a 2 cent piece! I am scared to touch it. What can I do to clean it, should I just soak it in olive oil? I do not want to ruin it. I will post pics after all are cleaned up. :happydance01:

    Silver and ebay auctions

Just a rant...I find it painful to see an ebay auction that says Junk silver coins...you will get whatever amount from this junk silver pile, full of liberty halves, barber halves, mercury dimes....etc etc...I wonder how much of the stuff we hold high just gets tossed out with the...

    Forget my Buffalo

Right as it got dark after 3 hours of digging nails and aluminum I was just about to give up. I got a 6 inch signal and it was going off like crazy around dime and quarter. I thought it was more junk as nothing was working out at this place...all rocks and rocks with metal signals...and junk...

    A possibly obvious question.

Do you dig inconsistent signals? By that I mean, you go over something...and only occasionally hear a noise as opposed to going over something and hearing a slot machine go off under the coil. lol

1935 Buffalo Nickel and Olive Oil

I soaked the 1935 Buffalo Nickel I found for a week and a half in olive oil and then cleaned it with a soft tooth brush. Thought the results were really good.

even more obvious of a question

where is the center of a coil...how do you know where it is hitting... I mean I have dug plugs and was dead on...but I still end up digging a hole right next to an item or have to dig three holes in the same area just to find something some times....how do you tell? :dontknow:
