Unusual insect

[Cheap Thrills]

First time I’ve ever seen one of these although they are not uncommon around here.
It was in my backyard. It’s called a Hawk Moth ,White. Lined Sphinx (Sphingidae) also called
Purslane Catterpillar.Scientific name Hyles Lineata.

Very cool White-lined Sphinx moth! They are big moths that behave like a hummingbird. I saw one flying around our flowers a few years ago.

I use to catch some of those as a kid they were huge but my favorite that you don't see often is the Luna moth

Wow, those are beautiful. I have yet to see one of those in the wild.
