My mother purchased a year around home about a mile away from our cottage in the UP. I visited her this weekend for the 4th and the first night I decided to detect her yard which is on the shore line so you never know what you are going to find. I came across a solid 88 on the Manticore and thought that it might be a clad quarter only 3inches down or so. It ended up being my 2nd 1853 Seated Quarter with the rays!

The next day my sister wanted to have her turn in the yard so I stayed off of it until she could swing a detector on it. She found some junk and then a nice two pronged fork with a bone handle. Then as I was in the woods about 50 yards away I heard her yell my name to come over. She said that there was a large copper in the dirt pile and she was sure more was in the hole. Well there were 4 total coppers in that hole! 1802 Draped Bust (still on my bucket list!), 1825 Matron LC, 1842 Province of Canada Bank Token and token that states "J Mc D Smith" "Baltic House" "Corner of Main and Detroit". This apparently is a rare pioneer era token from Milwaukee WI. I am still doing research on it and I am not sure when it was made...it might be a hard times token or maybe something else?

After all of that excitement I ventured backed into the woods and found some trash but I came across a 60 signal and dug up a silver arm band that was traded to the indians. This was a fairly common trade item and I have found a copper version and some pcs of silver bands. BUT this one is different. Many usually have some simple designs on them. This one has the British Coat of Arms on it. So I did a little research and found out that these were given as good will items to the Indian Chiefs. Pretty freaking cool if you ask me! I wish it could talk.

The shield on the Coat of Arms has the Fleur De Lis on it so it prior to 1801 I believe. Most of the silver items we find up there are mid 1700s.

It was a very short trip but man did we find some amazing things again! So blessed to be so near so much history! Thanks for looking!
