Silver pocket watch & other finds

Getting caught up on posts for some of my other finds from the summer and fall. Found my first silver pocket watch...can't believe how heavy it is! It says "coin silver" on the inside and I think the case is Elgin, but I still need to officially ID and date it. One of my other favorite...

Amazing Spanish coin (hint...it's the BIG one)

Visited a relative in CT this weekend who lives on an old farm with lots of land. The property is late 1700's and my relatives have lived there a very long time...I'm confident it has never been detected. Got a great signal in a field near the house and my heart nearly stopped when I saw a...

    Coinstar Merc!

Everything You see in the pic except the '64 Washington Quarter came in one recent haul from the coinstar. I was shocked to see a '42 Merc in there among the coins from Canada, Ecuador and Hong Kong. Then just now I was passing through the store again and spotted the silver quarter in the...

    Bucket lister....Capped Bust!!!!

Last year my top 2 bucket listers were a Flying Eagle Cent or a Capped Bust anything. Neither materialized. Well I guess I was off by one year, at least for the Capped Bust anyway. Found her along an old cart road where I also found my first Seated Quarter a few years ago. Also pictured are...

Recent finds: Seated, Barber, William III halfpenny

Here is a sampling of my finds over the last couple of months. The highlight was a beautiful Seated dime....my first and only of the year. Got a dateless William III. Also had an odd spill containing three $1 dollar coins...unusual. Found a WW II Navy whistle and beautiful 2 piece Coast...

Recent finds: Colonial relics, silver, 1774 KG III

Here are some of my better finds from the spring so far. My favorite was the KG III. I found my second SLQ ever and my first fatty IHP. Got a permission at a 1940's house that is about to be torn down and found an 1800's flat button, Colonial shoe buckle and 1/2 crotal bell buried deep in...

Seated Quarter and some other finds

Here are some recent spring digs. I've only found one silver coin so far this year, but it was an 1876 (s) Seated Quarter....only my second ever. It had a crusty friend in the hole...an 1883 V nickle. Managed a couple of nasty coppers...the one on the left is a Draped Bust and the right...

Need ID Help. Copper arrow point?

Doing some organizing of past finds and I recall when I dug it wondering if this might be an arrow point fashioned out of copper by native Americans. It looks very old to me and doesn't look like it broke off something else, but who knows. Any experts able to ID this for me?

Very first coin of the year is 1700's !!!

https://youtu.be/2Gf71MjWEng That stretch of unusually warm January weather here in New England created an opportunity for my first hunt of 2016. The very first coin I dug this year was a 1700's King George II Halfpenny. The back is toasted but it is soaking and I will hope to get a date...

Final finds of 2015: buttons, relics, DB Half cent

Here are some finds from my last few hunts of 2015. The SLQ is the one I found prior which I (over) cleaned to get the tarnish off. Tough to tell from the pic but found a DB Half Cent....crusty and no date. The Mickey Mouse spoon is circa 1930's. Any help on that small button sized...

Okay got my tumbler. Now what?

I must have been a good boy because Santa brought me the 3 lb rock tumbler form Harbor Freight I had asked for...and he delivered it early! Now what? Besides the obvious clad, what should I try tumbling? Wondering about: -Smoothie LC's and coppers? -Colonial and other early buckles? -Flat or...

    Finally....my first SLQ !!!!

An SLQ was at the top of my bucket list, and it finally happened yesterday! It's a 1923 and it's actually in decent shape but I'm going to keep working on getting that tarnish off (it's not a key date). I guess a flying eagle cent or maybe a capped bust anything is now at the top of my...

    1719 King George Coppah !!!!!!!!!

It's been a good week for me on the old coppers. Earlier in the week I found my first 1600's coin....a 1693 William & Mary halfpenny. Then a couple of days ago (in a different spot) I found this 1719 King George I halfpenny....my first of this type. Thanks for looking and HH!

    Tumbler reccomendation?

I'm going to ask Santa for a tumbler. Any suggestions on a good one to get? Or crappy ones to avoid? I would see myself using it for coins on occasion and small to medium sized relics....probably not large ones. I don't want something to huge. Also, best material to put inside? Thanks all.

    I'm into the 1600's !!!!!!

Here is a sampling of my recent finds, highlighted by my first 1600's coin.....a 1693 William & Mary halfpenny. So, I get my first 17th century coin before I get my first SLQ? The detecting gods work in mysterious ways. No matter...I'm happy! If you want to see my finds on my YouTube...

    Double Big Silver Morning!

I think I better go buy a lottery ticket or something. Last weekend I found my first Trime and my second war nickle. Yesterday I hit a different field and got my first eagle button (turns out to be WWI general service), an IH and an 1851 Braided Hair LC (not 1831...correcting my prior post)...

Largie, IH, button ID help please

Hit a field today and pulled an 1831 matron head and an 1890 IH. I took some naval jelly to that fancy silver gilded button and was amazed at how the details came out. If that is in fact part of a two piece eagle button then it is my first! Can anyone confirm, or help ID and date? The cool...
