    Estate Sale Finds

I went to an estate sale with my wife this morning and bought several books and a Notebook. When I opened the notebook the title page read "Confederate States of America paper money". I thumbed through it and thought it was empty until I got to one page. There were six notes on the page. I...

Literally the last target of the day.

A good friend invited me to hunt with him today at a site that has been hunted hard for several years. My first two signals were 42 and 44 wheat cents. Then nothing for about 3 hours. Finally I made it back to my truck, took a couple Tylenol and rested for a few minutes. My buddy was in a...

    Odd Eagle Button.

Can anyone tell me what eagle button this is? it is 15mm. I have never seen one with 12 stars above the eagle's head. I have been told it may be from a kepi and from the 1870-1900 time period but I can't find another one like it.

    Any Deer Hunters here?

I thought you might like to see a few deer from the National Forrest in North Georgia. My son sent these to me. One of them even came down off the bank and started toward his vehicle but my son's dog barked and the deer just turned and went into the woods. No hunting allowed!

    Anyone here named Griffin?

I bought this jewelry box at a yard sale for its contents. When I polished it I noticed the name "Griffin" etched into the top. If anyone here has that name and wants the box, let me know. I don't want anything for it. And, I think it is silver plated. I removed the red felt from the bottom...

    Trime Time

Found this 1851 Trime and a plain flat button at one of my permissions. Buddy found a confederate pewter block I and an 1839 dime and my other buddy found an 1818 large cent, Navy cuff button and a nice civilian button. Sorry, I don't have pictures of my buddie's finds.

    Very small button.

Hunted a site today that has been hit pretty hard. My good finds were a small harness buckle, part of a spoon or fork, a rolled copper point and the smallest button I have ever found. It just covers the head on a Lincoln penny. It's a two piece and still has the shank. I wonder what it would...

    Sitting pretty.

I went out for thee hours this morning to a new spot. It was very cool and breezy for our part of the country but one good find warmed me up. I was hunting into the breeze when a small gust made me turn to the right. I went about 15 feet and got my only good signal for the day. I turned over...

    Musket Trigger Guard?

Found this today at a peanut field I have permission on. It is brass with an iron trigger and would measure about 7"s long if straight. It is missing a piece at the front. Half a screw hole remains. I can make out the numbers 0 2 on the back of the tang. They are upside down in the first...

    Bottle Show Finds

I went to a bottle show in Tallahassee, Fla. last Saturday with a good friend. I didn't buy any bottle but did pick up some odd little pieces. One vendor had some coins and buttons that I looked through. I picked out some buttons, a large cent and a odd looking coin. He gave me a very fair...

    Carved 11th Corp Badge

Going through my brothers relics I found several interesting pieces but I like this one the most. It is an 11th Corp, Army of the Potomac badge or pin if you will. And, it has been carved to look like the man in the moon with the initials J and H. It is about the size of a quarter.

    Button Help Please.

I am posting this for a friend. It is a 1 piece button with the backmark of "Firmin & Sons 153 Strand London" I cannot figure out the obverse. Why would a porcupine be chasing an alligator or crocodile with a banner over its head. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    First Meager finds of 2021

I hit two different sites with a friend today and got one good find from both. The first site produced an 1880 H Canada 5 cent piece and the second site gave me a general service eagle cuff button with no backmark. The Canada coin is a first and, while the eagle button might seem fairly...

    Never give up!

I walked out my back door this morning and caught a slight movement on the ground. Looking down I was greeted by this sight. When the snake noticed me he quickly spit the toad out and headed for the safety of the pine straw.

Ever hear of a Clevis Wrench?

I found one last weekend but didn't know what it was until I did some research and questioning of certain knowledgeable people. Still not sure of the time period but I believe it to be the last half of the 19th century. You can barely make out the threads on the handle end. Both openings are...
