1749 KGII Farthing, Buttons and Balls

November 7, 2015 – Another solo hunt at one of my favorite fields that I haven’t been to since last fall. This field has produced many colonial coppers, buttons and musket balls in the past. I intended on only staying for a couple of hours but ended up there for a good part of the day. I left...

    Halloween Spanish Silver

October 31, 2015 – I took my brother-in-law who was home for the weekend out to an old farm I hadn’t been to since last year. The fields were tilled in the spring so I was hoping that new targets were ready to be found. My b-i-l found a big plain dandy button to start off the hunt. It was...

    Sunday field finds

October 18, 2015 – Like most of the northeast I woke up to a heavy frost and decided to delay my morning start. I was going out alone so I decided to hit a field close by. This field has produced many buttons and a few coppers over the years. I hadn’t been there since last year and was hoping...

    Off the Mark

September 26, 2015 – Saturday started with a park hunt with my daughter. The park was once a Boy Scout Camp and over the past few years turned into a town park with nature trails, etc. Found a bunch of clad and a couple of Wheaties and called it a day after an hour or so. Later on I took a...

    Great View

Came up empty on an after work hunt with my cousin so I figured I'd share the view from the top of the hill we were detecting. We were hoping to find an old encampment but ran out of daylight.

    Vacation finds at Cape Cod

My daughter and I detected a few evenings last week and I went for a couple hours Friday morning. Beaches were actually pretty clean, the usual pull tabs and bottle tops but much less than I thought there would be. Anyways, not pictured is the clad and junk, found some fishing weights, hot...

    Please Don't Judge Me...

I have a confession... I watched Digger's last night. I know, I know... but it was filmed in my town and had to watch. Besides, I'm friends with the town historian who was featured in the episode. Their first location, the Marshall house, is less than a mile from my house.

I shall call it seahorse, and it shall be my seahorse....

"She seems mysterious, so I'll call her Mystery. Come to think of it, she also seems graceful and majestic." Sorry, its the first thing I thought of...

    Artillery Button

November 16th – Headed back to the late 19th century farm house I was at two weeks ago. My hunting partner was unable to go (southern zone hunting season opened on Saturday) so my daughter asked if she could go. The corn field was cut and turned over. I was pretty sure that there was a house...

    Finally got out...

November 2nd - Last week I received permission to hunt a late 1800's farm. I picked up my cousin first thing in the morning traveled about 40 minutes to the site. It was windy and cold, glad I brought my heavy Carthart jacket. Met up with the owner and he told us we could detect anywhere we...

Looking for colonial but only found 4 cents

Sept 27th - I had finally secured permission to detect the lawns of a 1790's colonial. I had detected the surrounding fields a few years ago and had made some nice finds. When I pulled in the driveway my hopes of a good day started to dwindle. The once nicely manicured lawns were a mess and...

    Back to the musketball field

June 8th - We had a Sunday off from softball and after working a fire dept detail in the morning I got home to find my daughter heading to a birthday party and my wife was going shopping so what else was I suppose to do. The field was plowed and is ready to be planted so I figured this would be...

My Daughter Showed Me Up Last Night...

April 21st - My cousin called and said to meet him after work for a couple of hours of detecting. So, with daughter in tow I met up with him at the spot I found 11 musketballs last week. After setting up my daughter on her Delta 4000 off she went. After our 2 hour hunt she found 2 musketballs...

    First Time Out this year

April 13th - I finally got out for a hunt on Sunday. Huge manicured field, it was like digging on a fairway. Anyways, dug (11) .69 musketballs, (4) small lead balls (not sure if they are buckshot or pistol) decorative button and a 1864 two center.

    Thanksgiving week(end) hunts

I don't know the last time I was able to get out three days in a row... Unfortunately they were all fairly short hunts, but I'm not complaining. Thursday didn't amount to much but was able to get out with my brother in law Shane. Friday I took him to my favorite field and I found a few musket...

Quick Hunt = Couple of Coppers

November 16th - I was able to get in a quick hunt after my daughter's basketball practice before it got dark. Hit my favorite field that I haven't been to since before Easter. Found a '34 LC, a toasted KG II, a few buttons, couple of musketballs and a what's it. Awesome weather for November!!

    Joined the club today!

The fugio club that is! Finally made it back to the corn field my cousin and I started detecting last month. This field was home to a 18th century home and farm which are long gone. Also found my first Eagle I button which is a two piece and I believe the other two buttons are early militia.
