Hello and welcome to American Detectorist , the xlt is still a good detector and I used one for a number of years and then got a DFX (dual frequency xlt) . these detectors had some of the most accurate target id'ing and depth reading . Great contact info on repairs . Thanks , Dan

Boy was it a hot muggy one too! Ron and I met up with Jim Atkiv (who is retired and detecting almost every day now ;)) in the norther corner of Massachusetts , its been so long since i've gotten out I almost forgot how the deus sounded 😁 . Ron did well with almost a dozen buttons at the few...

Designed tombacs are some of my favorite buttons to find , wish they all held up as well as those do. those are very very nice Dave .

NC is rich in history and a beautiful state , I myself visit the north western (around Jonesville) once or twice a year to spend with family , detect and arrow head hunt . I may even move down there in a couple of years permanently . I wish you the best of luck.

Dave have you ever use media blasting (sand or soda or other) to remove the heavy rust ? i would steer clear of this method if the item was very thin or delicate iron but i've used it on gun barrels and tools and its a lot quicker , less messy and has similar results ?

Clean the back as best you can and show us ( i suspect it has a solder or brazed mark where the attachment was) it could be a few things like a cufflink button , tie tack or lapel pin .
