Frst time out with the CTX3030

thumbsup01 Weather has improved in SE WI, most of the frost is out of the ground, and the temperatures increasing. Went out in the back yard to get some hands on with the CTX3030, practice my video capture, edit, and upload. Made a video of my first coin of the season, and first coin found with...

What`s the weather like here in SE WI?

I wish I had some nice finds to post, like some shinny silver. I made a first time video, signed up to YouTube, and here it is. It shows why it is so hard to do any detecting here. :thumbsdown:ConditionsSEWI

Todays meager hunt minus the trash.

Got out this morning with the AT Pro, for an 1-1/2 hr hunt, upper 30`s, and winds off Lake Michigan at 20 mph. :white:usaflag:: Not the best conditions. Did have some luck with clad and a Sterling ring. thumbsup01 My season is almost over. :frozen:

    Terry Herbert`s Staffordshire Hoard.

Very interesting program on National Geographic TV, and article in November National Geographic Magazine about Terry Herbert. A detectorist from England who found the Staffordshire Hoard in 2009. He received or will receive, half of the $5.3 million treasures worth. What a post that would have...

What happened to the detectorists code of ethics?

    >:# Recently I asked a question is anyone out there detecting, because I had not seen one other detectorist. After I made the post I ran into someone wading and detecting the shore of Lake Michigan. I got to talk t him, and he seemed like a nice guy. Today I did not see anyone detecting, but I...

    Finally, silver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning was my morning. I was working a 100+ year old park that I have hunted before. Detecting a big flat part of the park where they hold special events. I had found 2 copper pennies so far on the flat. I was swing the coil over a promising target, I looked up and saw all these kid...

Took my MineLab Explorer SE Pro on maiden voyage

:smitten: I have a lot to learn about the Explorer SE Pro, but so far I like it. thumbsup01 I took it to my relatively trash free ball diamond this morning, and had some luck. Found my usual amount of clad, and a .925 Mexican ring. I finally had some silver at the bottom of the hole. :cheering:

    Problem with my smileys?

    :confused: When I insert a smiley it doesn`t always appear in my post. :thinkingabout: Just the letters or symbols for the smiley. :frozen: I put some smileys in this post hoping it will happen and you can see what I mean. >:{

    Been working a Town Park.

When I first started detecting local parks, I wasn`t sure what the reactions would be from people that saw me, so far it has been positive. People that have talk to me, have only asked if I had found anything interesting, or even suggested places to hunt. Yesterday, at a town park near my home...

What is my AT Pro telling me?

I am hunting an old farm. As anyone that has hunted a site like this knows, it is littered with iron, and every kind of trash imaginable. I have pulled 3 Wheat's (54-44-42), and some clad to date. I run my AT Pro in Pro mode Custom, disc @ 35, and sensitivity @ 4-5 bars. While swing the coil I...

I saw my first detectorist today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<: I was hunting the grassy area of one of my regular city parks on the shore of Lake Michigan today when I spotted him wading the shore line about a 1/4 mile from me. I walk down the hill and across the beach and introduced myself. We talked for 10-15 minutes. He has been detecting for about 20...

    Is anybody out there MDing?

I ask this because over the past month I have been out on average 6 days a week for about 4 hours at a time detecting and have not seen another detectorist. I bought my first MDer over 10 years ago, but just started detecting hard the last month or so, I can`t say I have seen many out detecting...

How do this years finds compare to previous years.

I did this poll to see if maybe new detector technology could be helping improve our finds. I would also like to know if your finds were made at places you hunted before, or new locations. My results are BETTER THAN EVER, but I have only been MDing hard the last month, and I am still learning. I...

    Wading get another ring.

I was out wading this morning with better results. The day started out so good. I just got in the water, ground balanced , and started swinging. I had not move 2` when I got a 76 ID @ 4. It was a ring. I thought it was gold until I got home, and did not see anything on the inside, like 10Kt. It...

    Question for shallow water detecting?

I went to a fresh water swimming beach this morning with my AT Pro, waders, long handle sand scoop, and floating sifter. Any one that does this regularly must have one heck of a strong right arm. I knew it would be hard swing in the water, but after 2 hours I was getting really tired. I was...

    Ready to take the plunge!!

I got my chest waders, a new Garrett AT Pro w/waterproof headphones, and a long handle sand scoop. I`m ready to take the plunge at a popular local swimming beach, or am I? Did I forget anything? What other thing do I need for my first waist deep hunt?

New guy with best find (nothing special)

I have had a detector for 10 years, but really only started detecting the last month. Took that long to figure out how to use it :dontknow: Until I learned what my detector was telling me, it just made these strange noises. This is a picture of my best find. Compared to other post it...

    Hello from SE Wisconsin

Hello from Wisconsin. I found this site while reading a great article by Angel Villanueva in the Nov 2011 W&E Treasures. Have had a detector for 10 years, but have only recently started to really learn how to use it. It looks like I will be busy reading past post to learn more about this...
