In those eight years many fantastic finds have been posted, but more importantly, many friendships have been formed. Thank you to Angie (Epi-hunter) for continuing...

Hunting Ohio with the Boys From Illinois / Got me a Bucket Lister

So many great finds! First of all, congrats on the bucket lister FATTY Indian Head! They are not easy to find. Yours is actually in pretty good shape compared to most dug examples I've seen. Awesome! And let's not forget that you also got a GOLD ring! Amazing that the opal is still intact...

The Boys from Illinois know the Joys of Ohio!

This past weekend Daddy Digger planned a detecting trip to Ohio and invited us fellow Illinoisans to tag along. I met up with him, Digger Don and Digger Al early on Saturday morning and we detected a park around the courthouse square, a few houses in town and a few farm houses in the country...

    Button, Buff, Badge

Love that badge! :loveit: Gang Busters was a radio show from 1936-1957, a movie serial in 1942, a comic book series from 1947-1958, and a television show in 1953. I found a couple badges like yours on the internet, one from hake's auctions and another on Pinterest. Hake's says it is circa...

    Photobucket

As some of you may have heard, Photobucket recently changed from a free image hosting site to one that you have to pay for. In order to share your Photobucket images on another website you now have to pay the ridiculous sum of $400 per year. Obviously not many people are willing to shell out...

Downright Dandy Detecting Day with Daddy Digger and Digger Don

Sorry you couldn't join us, Tom. We will get together for a hunt someday! I almost forgot to show this giant reed I found. It is huge! It must be out of a pump organ or something. It rang up like a deep silver half dollar. Rather disappointing.

Downright Dandy Detecting Day with Daddy Digger and Digger Don

This past Saturday I met up with Daddy Digger and Digger Don in northern Illinois for some metal detecting. I haven't been out much this year, so it was nice to get out for a long hunt! On Saturday we hunted a couple of houses in town and a couple of farms in the country. We all had...

    In case you missed it.......

And it's the same on the five dollar bill as well. And if you hold the bill up to the light you will see a third image of Honest Abe. :thumbsup01:

    Research leads to disappointment

Nice to see a post from you, Alec! At least you did your research before you decided to travel to that site. I'm guessing you may have has some trouble getting in. The only site I can think of where I had similar disappointment was this one in the small town where my dad grew up. On...

    Buckle, Copper, Relics

I think it's definitely a crown on that copper. I can see the same ball at the top with a cross under it, and the same plumes. Very similar but not exactly the same as the one on the right here. I personally don't see any designs from a large cent.

    Buckle, Copper, Relics

I think that copper shows the top of a crown, which makes me think it may some kind of Irish Hibernia. Nice hunt, Drew! :clapping:

    Who is that?

Tim, I think that is a lid off of an old tube of Mennen's shave cream. I think the man depicted is Gerhard Mennen. Here are some old ads that show some examples:

    Saturday Silver

I got out for about three hours on Saturday afternoon at a private residence. Nothing to write home about, but it was fun seeing those silver coins in the dirt. I also found a sterling silver Odd Fellows Rebekah Lodge pendant.

From the same 1700's site as my knee buckle,

It reminds me of the handle part of this winder I found recently. I guess it's some kind of clock winder maybe? Part of it has corroded away. Does yours look like the stem may have broken off? Does it have a hole in it that is clogged with dirt?

Return to Indian River...Old Silver, Fake Silver, Old Copper...and a Mystery!

You guys have really outdone yourselves! What an incredible group of finds! Diane got a really old 1818 Large Cent, and you got an 1836 Half Dime! :wow: Even with the nibble missing from the edge that is a terrific coin. It gives it character. :thumbsup01: I agree with you about the...

Old Farm House Indians, Silver Spill, Relics

Yesterday after I work I detected an old farm house with a new detecting buddy. The house was built in 1914 but the owners told us an older house had previously been on the same spot and burned down. The old brick detached kitchen still remains from the original house. We hit this site for...

    Has me stumped...

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I really appreciate the help! I think I have this one figured out. Although I couldn't find an exact match, I think it is a latch for an old ice box. Here's one currently on eBay that is very similar to mine...

    Has me stumped...

It doesn't really appear to be broken. There is a crack in it though, like it was bent too far. It also has weird serrations on one end.
