A Fun Day At Some 1830s Sites

I met up with Digger Don and Noah yesterday to hit the "Button Field" and the "1833 Cabin Site". The weather man said it was going to rain but he was wrong. We enjoyed decent weather all day although it was a brisk 28 degrees when we started detecting with a 20 mph wind. At the Button Field I...

    Let's see those GW Buttons!

I put all of mine in a shadow box. Here's a photo of my display.

Epic Hunt at the 1833 Cabin Site / Bucket Lister

When Don texted me a photo of his Half Cent the first thing I replied was "Dave has found one too, but not me!" That is a spectacular find, Don! The color of it is wonderful! Crazy that a coin that nice was in a farm field. You know there is more in that field! It is very fortunate...

    Cross part?

Definitely an arrowhead. Here's a side-by-side comparison with a similar one I found on the internet:

    Thanks for leaving me one!

Congrats on your first FATTY Indian Head, Tim! I'm glad I showed you how to find one last time. You had a great day with lots of nice finds! I really love that silver spoon bowl with the giant ferris wheel on it. It is definitely from the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago!

A Productive Saturday Hunt with Tony Two-Cent & Noah

I've been trying to find a match to your eagle button without much success. The backmark says "W.H. HORSTMANN & SONS - PHI". I cannot find that exact button though.

1863 Fatty, Minié ball, and a compact with coins in it.

On Saturday I met up with Don and Tim for some detecting. After a somewhat slow start our day was saved by one yard at an 1870s (?) brick house. We strongly suspect it had been detected before as there were no old silver coins at all, but we got some nice finds by digging the odd signals...

    Morning Micro Hunts

Your posts are always super interesting, Drew! Such a wide variety of old coins and relics. Finding a KG on a micro hunt is mind blowing to me. That would be a monumental find here in the Midwest. Your Indian Head doesn't even garner a mention. A copper, old button and buckle...

This Weeks Finds: 1855 French 10 Centimes & 1913 Dog Tax Tag

Wow, so many cool finds! I agree that the dog tag is special. Over 100 years old and it looks great. Terrific find! The 1866 Indian Head is a scarce find as well. That date has eluded me. Very nice example! About 3 years ago I found an 1855 Ten Centimes coin that looks very similar to...

    1731 COIN kinda day!

What an awesome coin! I've never seen on before. That's what we love about metal detecting! You never know what's going to be in the next hole. :congrats: Here are some images of the coin that I took from your video:

Contest for War of 1812 era button!

Well, looky what arrived today! As instructed, I ran my E-trac over the packet before I opened it. It rang up a solid 12-32 from every direction, which would be a low Indian Head type signal on the E-Trac. A couple of times it did jump up to 12-33. The button did arrive with some of the...

    Got out with Moose yesterday

I was able to get out with Moose for a few hours yesterday. Our hunt was interrupted by a hail storm but after it blew over we were able to continue. All of these finds were in private yards in a river town so the soil is very sandy and the oldest coins and relics quickly sink below the...

    3 Cellars, a Park, and a Skunk

I'd say that is a nice pile of finds for the week, Drew! I, for one, love your stream of consciousness posts. :-) For the reasons you mentioned, it definitely pays to revisit sites that you thought were "hunted out". Gotta love the first year of issue Barber Quarter, and it even has a New...

1863 Milwaukee Plank Road Brewery Token

What a wonderful token, produced in the midst of the civil war. I think the original brewery building is still there?

One room school house field sites

Great finds, Jeff! I love the shoe token. The Boy Scouts of America were founded in 1910. It looks like the Excelsior Shoe Company started in Portmouth, Ohio in about 1889. Look at how massive their factory was! Congrats on the sharp Barber Dime too! :clapping:

Mid 1800s house 7 silver spill!!

I did find a similar spill in 2015. Mine was 6 silver Rosies and one clad, so Tim's spill beats mine! Don wasn't with me that day though. Congrats, Tim! That is very cool! :clapping:

Sunday Hunt with the Deep Digger Duo

Yesterday I got out with Digger Don and Digger Al in a town on the banks of the Wabash River. I have a love/hate relationship with river towns. The soil is always very sandy and the old coins seem to sink too deep to find. On the other hand, the coins you do manage to find are always in great...

Five Indians in a Small Yard

I went back to this same small yard on Tuesday of this week and found a few more oldies. The Barber Dime is 1906 with no mint mark.
