Five Indians in a Small Yard

This hunt was a little over a month ago. I plan to go back to this permission if it ever stops raining here. Surprising number of Indian Heads in such a small yard. The owner just bought the lot next door and said I could hunt it too, but it is mostly gravel parking lot. Video...

    What's your detecting "white whale?"

Your post made me curious, Dave, so I got out my bag of Rosies that I have found detecting. When I poured out the bag my first thought was, "How did THAT get in there?" (Do you see it?) After sorting them by date I discovered that I also have never found a 1955 Rosie! Very odd!

    Haunted Mansion

Here's the property that mansion is on. It would have taken us a month to cover it all. Just imagine all of the Large Cents and Seated coins that are there!

    Haunted Mansion

Tim (Noah) was unaware that I took this photo of him getting ready to knock on the door of this (abandoned?) mansion a couple of weeks ago. Clearly the place is haunted. I watched from the safety of my truck. I thought I saw an evil spectre watching Tim from one of the windows, but it may...

Happy 10th Anniversary to the American Detectorist Forum!

Hard to pick a favorite, but this find probably got me the most excited.

Happy 10th Anniversary to the American Detectorist Forum!

Believe it or not, this forum turns ten years old today! It was founded on October 21, 2009 by angellionel and Epi-hunter. In an age where forums are regularly disappearing due to Facebook and other social media, we have managed to stay relevant thanks to loyal members like you! The staff...

    A Few Keepers from Ohio

I met up with Digger Don and Noah for a weekend of detecting in Ohio. We couldn't believe how dry the ground is there. I got the 1865 Indian Head right off the bat on Saturday. It is worn but it cleaned up really well. The silver Washington came from the same yard. The 1912-D Barber Dime and...

Typical Illinois Hunt for Tony One-Cent and Digger Don

I got out with Don yesterday for some door knocking in central Illinois. It rained on us for the 2-hour trip there but by the time we started detecting at 8:30 it had stopped. When I arrived Don had already procured a permission for us at an 1865 house! It was a beautiful old brick mansion...

    Finding 1943 Steel Cent

Here's one I found in a coin spill. Since they are steel it is unlikely that you will find one if you're using any discrimination at all. (Unless they're in a spill.)

    Mercury Rising

I got out with Digger Don and Noah yesterday for some door knocking. We went to a town that has a lot of history. Very friendly people in this town, we got a lot of yeses. I had a decent day and so did Don, but Tim (Noah) had a ridiculous day! I can't wait to see his post. Anyway, here...

    Old Drive-In Theater

Here are the results from the first trip to the old drive-in. These coins were found in about an hour and a half. I found the Merc right off the bat within the first five minutes. My buddy Moose also found a Merc, his was 1935. The newest coin I found is dated 1975 which confirms what I was...

    Old Drive-In Theater

I just got an open-ended permission to detect the grounds of this old drive-in movie theater. I am told that it opened in the 1940s and closed in the late 1970s. I know there wouldn't be any super old coins there but there might be some silver. I have no idea if it has been detected before...

    More coins with Don

Good job, Tim! I love the 1917 SLQ and the first year of issue Barber Dime. But where's that Two Cent Piece, mister?

Saturday With Digger Don & Noah, Sunday With Moose

I had a good time detecting this past weekend! On Saturday I met up with Digger Don and Noah for some detecting in central Illinois. It was hot and humid but at least the rain stayed away. All three of us ended up with some good finds. Here is a list of the coins I found on Saturday: 3...

May 18, 2019 Finds with Digger Don and Noah

This past Saturday I met up with Don and Noah for some door knocking. We tried two different towns and got several yeses but it seemed that every yard we hit had been detected before. Nevertheless we ended up with some decent finds. Silver was scarce for me but I ended up with 5 Indian Heads...

I got silver but not a coin

I think this type of cigarette holder was used for smoking a cigarette, rather than as a container.

    2019 Has Begun

Way to go, Drew! That's a nice way to start the detecting year! I have also found one of those tokens but yours is in a lot better shape. :congrats:

    1920s Bull Durham Tobacco Charm

I was bored yesterday afternoon so I went for a quick one hour hunt in the farm field next to my house. There used to be an old house there. Nothing worth posting, really, except for the Bull Durham Tobacco charm/pendant. I thought it was kinda cool. On the back it says "WARRANTED 14 K GOLD...

Tony Two-Cent and Digger Don Fight the Wind

I met up with Digger Don yesterday for some door knocking. This town ended up being somewhat of a disappointment but we did get a few permissions that weren't too bad. It was a very windy day! Here are my finds: Coin spill that included a War Nickel: It was great getting out...
